But what you do with them is far more important than just having them. It’s like having a lot of money but not doing anything with it. Sometimes there are just too many options. If you find that you are an “idea machine” that breaks down once the ideas are supposed to turn into something tangible, there are some things you can do to give yourself a tune-up.

1. Let them simmer until it’s time for your Weekly Review. When you have an idea, write it down. But don’t do anything with it until your Weekly Review day arrives. If the idea occurs to you less than 2 days before your Weekly Review day, don’t do anything with it until the following one. Let the ideas percolate and stand together with everything else you have to do. This will help you gain perspective on the idea in terms of what you can – and can’t – do with it. If it’s something that sits in your Weekly Review for four weeks, drop it. It’s clearly not crucial to you in the grand scheme of things. And besides, if you let it go and comes back to you, then when that happens you’ll know it’s something that you need to act upon.

2. Create idea buckets. Put all of your ideas in a bucket – and if you’ve got areas of your life that are fundamental to your happiness (such as a passion project, your work, or your family life), then create an idea bucket for each. Every time you have an idea, throw it into the pertinent bucket. When doing your Weekly Review (which you’re doing, right?) take a look at how many of those ideas are sitting in each bucket and how much progress has been made on them. If they are sitting there with no actions attached, it might be time to dump them. This tactic can be used in conjunction with, or as an alternate to, the first tactic mentioned. I use both because once the idea has simmered and it’s something that I’m intending on doing, I’ll put the idea in the corresponding bucket and turn it into a project when the timing is right.

4. Get real. This one is by far the most subjective, as everyone has their own way to do this. I look at all of my stuff (my task management application, my calendar, etc.) and really look at what I have time for. I connect with the ideas that I’m fondest of and know will bring about the most benefit to myself and others. Then I start to cull. I adopt a mindfulness by doing this regularly. I’m not really meditating, but I’m really getting in touch with all that I have on my plate and deciding – really deciding – what can stay and what has got to go. This is the hardest thing to do, usually because more ideas pop into my head while I’m doing it. But the ideas that come to mind during this time rarely stick, as they are usually meant to keep me from the objective at hand: to get real.

One of the best things about having ideas come to you regularly is that you’re never at a shortage of material to work with. But it’s the “working with” part that is the hardest part. Capturing your ideas is great, but thinking on them is what will keep you from being trapped in overwhelm and bringing your ideas to life.

If you’re an idea machine, then learning to separate the projects from the rejects is a skill worth learning. Because an idea on its own isn’t worth very much, and you’re worth so much more than that.
thrasher115http://www.blogger.com/profile/12382002451969008764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3386096907802787870.post-15804887179079244082011-10-22T20:17:00.001-07:002011-10-22T21:02:11.042-07:005 Tips for Taking Home Businesses to the Retail Worldwide

Thanks to the explosion in popularity of shopping at online marketplaces like eBay, Etsy, adflyer, Folksy and others, small retailers and home businesses are now able to sell their goods to customers around the world.

If you’ve got a home business selling anything from handmade jewelry or vintage clothes to pet accessories, chances are you’ve already dabbled with an online store at the major English language online marketplaces like eBay. For instance, the current strength of the Australian dollar means that it’s often cheaper for Australian shoppers to purchase goods from foreign online shopping sites and pay for the shipping than it is for them to buy locally. Conversely, small Australian retailers are finding it hard to sell overseas without dramatically reducing their prices.

By looking at the exchange rates and the prices set by your competitors in foreign markets, you’ll get a good idea for potential profit margins. Even if the profit margin is small, you may find over time that the sheer quantity of goods sold makes up for the lower prices – or you may gradually whittle your international efforts down to just a few foreign stores.

4) Be aware of foreign payment systems

The second major barrier for online shoppers is payment systems – if you only accept credit or debit card payments, but your customers in China don’t use credit cards and prefer to pay by Alipay, then you’re going to see a lot of abandoned shopping carts.

Do you feel the constant “temptation” to quit your job right now. You may feel enough is enough. Maybe you are even sick of working for other people. To be your own boss means controlling your own destiny, having your own time and no bosses to report to. Basically, you can do whatever you want. But before you really jump into a new territory of being on your own, you have to make sure that you are ready, well equipped and have the right motivation.

So, what drives your motivation? What are the reasons why you are starting that business? If your reason for starting a business is only money, you will definitely not last long. Study has shown that the successful startup entrepreneurs are not driven by money. They are driven by passion to transform the lives of people around them. Lifestyle entrepreneurs should not just be wealth accumulators. Your focus should be more on how many problems you would be able to solve through your solution and not how much you would accumulate.

I am not saying that accumulating wealth is not good but that should not be your main focus for starting that business. There is no way you will keep solving problems and money will not flow in your direction. So, take a second look at your motive before you drop that resignation letter. Along the way, you will be faced with so many challenges. These will happen when you least expect and they will test the motivation behind your business idea and your strength.

The only things that will sustain you will be your motivations – what drives you. Why did you decide to leave the comfort of a paying-job to embrace a life that is full of uncertainties? If money accumulation is the ONLY reason you are in business, it is most likely that you will not survive the storm when it comes. It is not too late to retrace your steps now. Take out some minutes right away, review your motivations right away and ensure that you are on the right track. If you feel if have had the wrong motivation(s), re-align yourself. Each goal must be relevant to the main objective of the organisation and relevant to the overall success of the company.

Set a time frame and deadline for each goal and ensure the deadline is realistic but, at the same time, challenging.

Work with your people to help them determine the goals that would be most appropriate for their development and growth and work with them to develop the appropriate action steps to achieve these goals and you will see a noticeable improvement in their performance.

Communicate and tell your people what is happening, people are hungry for information and from my experience, can be trusted with company details. Unfortunately, too many corporations and their middle managers feel that people should only be given information that is relevant to their specific job.

Keep them aware of the progress you are making in achieving your goals, people are naturally curious and want to know how they are doing. Do not reveal confidential information, but share information about the overall status of the company.

Regular update meetings, email correspondence, broadcast voice mails are just some of the ways you can communicate with your people. Another effective method is through casual discussions.

Communication must be clear and concise, employees want to know where they stand and, all but a few, want to do a good job. They want to know how, you, as their leader, view their performance. That's why it is critical that you give them direction and feedback on a regular basis.

Experience has taught me that people will work harder for someone who praises them and recognises the effort they put into their work. Acknowledge their energy and performance, their effort and commitment, how hard they worked and how involved they were with it.

Your people have a lot of knowledge and information and can often contribute valuable suggestions to improve the business. If you really want to create a team of highly motivated people take the time to listen to their comments and ideas.

Foster an environment that encourages the open sharing of information. Great leaders are always open to new ideas and methods of improving business and some of the best ideas come from the customer facing employees.

This last point is the most important. If you want a highly motivated team, then you must lead by setting the example. You must demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, team cooperation, honesty, integrity and commitment.

Treat people with respect and dignity, give them the tools to excel, grow and develop and encourage them to participate and get involved. Ask them for feedback, listen to their comments, and act on suggestions that will help your business succeed.

Set and communicate high standards, provide positive reinforcement when your people perform and involve them. You will soon see a motivated team that will do almost anything to help you succeed.
thrasher115http://www.blogger.com/profile/12382002451969008764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3386096907802787870.post-30325493928468840742011-10-22T12:48:00.001-07:002011-10-22T12:49:32.830-07:0011 gradual steps to Success
1. choose your destination, probably the hardest part of success is really finding what you want and not second guessing it.

2. review your plan, right it down on paper not your computer.

* Perkilangan dan Pemerosesan
* Pengedar atau Agen
* Runcit
* Perkhidmatan
